Liposuction: About The Recovery Period Of The Procedure
Liposuction is a medical procedure in which the patient is relieved of a certain amount of fat
. The surgeon basically makes several incisions on the area of the patient's body and a slim tube, called cannula, is inserted into an incision.
Vigorous movement is used to suck up the fat and liquids which are used to facilitate better suctioning. Only a certain amount of fat may be extracted at a time. The extraction of too much fat can cause the body to go into shock. This is the reason why some individuals may require several sessions.
Recovery
The recovery from liposuction is basically easy. The amount of work done on the patient is one of the factors that will dictate the length of the recovery time. For individuals who have only a small area, it may take as little as a month before the patient is fully mobile with less discomfort and pain accompanying movement. The larger the area involved in the operation, the longer the recovery time is.
The individual who has just undergone liposuction may be mobile a week after the operation. This mobility does not mean that the patient can be fully mobile or do what he or she normally does before the operation.
Caution must be exercised during the recovery period since it is not just the skin that has wounds but the muscle may actually be affected along with the inner layers of tissue and the dermis. The surgeons will always recommend the usage of a compression garment of sorts to help with recovery.
Rest is actually prescribed for the patient along with pain killers and medication against infection. Resting does not mean lying around immobile, though; a little activity is recommended even the day after the operation. The activity should be increased during the first week of recovery. Doctors will recommend walking around the house as much as normally possible and then resting for a bit.
Cleansing the wounds require specific instructions. These should be followed well to prevent an infection from setting. An infection can complicate the operation and result to scarring, a follow up procedure or the prescription of stronger antibacterial medication. Another risk that comes with liposuction is bleeding.
Inexpert wielding of the cannula can damage some tissues or muscles in the body. The damage may cause bleeding which can extend the time of the operation or maybe halt it. The shock that comes with the extraction of too much fat from the body is another risk that the doctor should avoid since it may result in death. Allergic reactions to anesthetic and other pain relieving drugs can also complicate the procedure.
