Liposuction Can Be Performed On Nearly Any Part Of The Body

One of the reasons why liposuction (also known as lipoplasty and suction lipectomy) is so popular is that it is highly versatile

. Many cosmetic surgeries are location-specific. That is, they can only be performed on one place on the body. For example, breast augmentations and reductions can only be performed on the breasts. Rhinoplasties can only affect the nose. Tummy tucks can only affect the tummy.

By contrast, lipoplasties can be performed just about anywhere on the body where there is extra fat. This means that the surgery can be taken to wherever there are problem areas on the body. This even extends to very delicate areas such as the face and the neck. Even though these areas require great delicacy and are close to major nerves and arteries, they can generally be safely operated on.

When lipoplasty was first invented, this sort of area could not generally be operated on. However, because of advances in techniques and technologies, liposuctions can even be performed on these areas.

The most popular areas for lipoplasty tend to be the places where most unwanted fat is stored. For example, the belly and flanks are very popular areas. Many people of both genders have a little excess fat around the abdomen. Most men tend to store large amounts of their fat around their abdomens, and women tend to get more fat around their abdomens during pregnancy. Among women, some other areas which are popular include the buttocks, the hips and the thighs. These are some of the areas where women tend to store the most fat.

The breasts are also popular target areas among both genders. Some women have breasts that are larger than they wish they were and use lipoplasty to reduce the size of their breasts. The reasons for wishing one's breasts were smaller ranger from the physical (soreness in the shoulders, neck and upper back and headaches due to the strain of holding the breasts up) to the practical (having a hard time finding clothes that fit) to the emotional (possible social awkwardness). Removing some of the fat can help with all of these reasons and liposuctions can remove up to nearly one half of the breast's fatty tissue.

Men are less likely to store large amounts of fat around the breasts, but it is actually for this very reason that the lipoplasty of the breasts is popular among men. Often, when men put on excess chest fat, they feel embarrassed because it doesn't feel masculine to them. The increased size and fattiness of their chest sometimes reminds themselves and others of women's breasts. Lipectomies can help to curtail this problem by removing some of the excess fat.

Just because these are some of the most popular areas, though, doesn't mean that they are the only ones available. A lipoplasty can usually go to where the problem is.
