Logo Design – You Can Do Without These 3 Elelments

Logo Design You Can Do Without These 3 Elelments

Design software is so widely available and easy to use, even kids are using it. They - the software, not the kids - are not only affordable, some of them are even available for free. Of course, the ones that are available for free do not come with all the bells and whistles but they still have enough features for a novice designer to utilize when designing a logo.

Before you start designing your logo, here are a few heads up to help you save some time. You just need to avoid a few elements in order to stand a chance of creating a clutter free logo.

Avoid Tag Lines

Tag lines are great for branding purposes but take my advice and do not include them in your logo design proper. The only text in your logo design should be your logo text.

The reason tag lines should not be included on your ideogram is because most tag lines are too small to read and they change with different marketing campaigns. A logo should make an instant impact so having someone squint to read yout tiny tag line will defeat the purpose.

Rainbows Are Not Always Nice

Colors make a logo attractive but the excessive use of colors could make a logo look gaudy or garish. Which is why you should always start your designs in black. Just look at the Nike logo. It looks good in black.

Even if you are designing a logo for a kindergarten, try not to use more than 3 colors in your design. Using too many colors, might lessen the impact of a design.

Another good thing about having a logo look good in just one color, especially black or white, is that its easier to match it to different background colors.

Uncomplicated Designs Rule!

3 fundamental rules of logo design is that the logo be describable, memorable and recognizable at first sight. An easy way to accomplish this is to design a logo that is simple and uncluttered. Forget intricate designs that take days to complete. Instead, use shapes or symbols which are easy to recognize.

All the big boys have simple logo designs. Just look at logos from Shell, Mercedes and Intel. They are easy to describe, easy to remember and therefore, instantly recognizable. All their logo updates are subtle so as to keep the corporate identity and historical value of the logos intact. Unless you are designing a coat of arms or a family crest, I would strongly suggest keeping logo designs as simple as possible.
