. In its basic form, article marketing is where you, the author, write short articles (~500 words) on any subject, preferably related to your niche and submit them to article directory sites. Online publishers and website owners can then take your articles and republish them on their sites and provide link backs to your site. Its like free advertising. So, lets discuss the five main benefits to article marketing

- Submitting articles to article directories is little to no cost

- Articles provide content to your website or blog

- Every website that publishes your articles is required to link back to your site via your author byline

- Your articles are online indefinitely

- Your articles can go viral and provide a huge amount of traffic to your site

Now, lets look at each of these components in a little more detail. First, submitting articles to article directories is little to no cost. I myself submit articles to about ten free article directories currently. This is great for new online entrepreneurs and affiliate marketers just starting out with tight advertising budgets. Second, articles provide content to your website or blog. If youve done any research about search engine optimization, you will soon come to realize that site content is a key point in improving your website ranking. So, make sure to post your articles to your website or blog. Also, most visitors are turned off by sales letter sites that offer really no benefit or information. Always remember, most people are online searching for information. Third, every website that publishes your articles is required to link back to your site via your author byline. By submitting your articles to article directories, you give permission for article publishers and e-zine publishers to copy your article and republish them on their own websites. However, they must give you credit for authoring the article and provide a link back to your site in exchange. This will also help to improve your website ranking on search engines. Fourth, your article is available online indefinitely. This is where the long term traffic comes from. Once you publish an article to an article directory, it is literally online forever and can be republished again and again for years to come. This will lead to sustained long term traffic to your site. Last, your article can go viral and result in a huge amount of traffic for your site. We hear the term viral now and think mostly of sites like Youtube, but the same can happen for great articles that are picked up by top e-zine publishers that have large followings online.
