Looking At The Canadian Provincial Nominee Program But Not Sure Which Province? Let's Explore Them

Out of the dozens of different visas for Canada that are available to apply for

, one of the most popular is a form of Canadian work visa and is known as the Provincial Nominee Program.

In essence, the Provincial Nominee Program, rather than having the entire Canadian government make the decision on who can and cannot enter the country, passes the responsibility to the provinces.

Of course, there are still certain restrictions in place and guidelines that each of the provinces have to follow, but the program allows for people to apply for a Canadian work visa directly to a part of Canada that they want to live in and that has a distinct need for the skills that the applicant posses.

Whilst called the Provincial Nominee Program, giving the impression that it is restricted solely to the provinces within Canada, this is not entirely true. Although 9 out of the 10 provinces do participate (Ontario is the only exception), there is 1 territory, Yukon, which also participates in the program.

Each participant in the program stipulates different requirements for applying and so before you make your decision on which to apply for, it's best to have at least a basic understanding of what each is looking for.

1. Alberta - due to its particularly healthy economy, Alberta is a province which is continually looking for manual workers and trades people

2. British Columbia - somewhat of a technological province, the British Columbia government are looking for people with particular known of IT and aerospace technologies

3. Manitoba - a relatively open policy, Manitoba asks for its visa applicants to have three qualities, which are sufficient support when settling in the country, a good standard of English and a substantial amount of training and experience in their chosen vocation

4. New Brunswick - simple and straightforward, to apply for a Canadian work visa for New Brunswick you either have to have a guaranteed job offer or a plan to setup a business that has been approved by the local authorities

5. Newfoundland and Labrador - the most eastern province in Canada does not have any specific requirements

6. Nova Scotia - applicants can apply for a six month work experience placement with an employer within the province, which are generally in the more manual work trades

7. Prince Edward Island - the smallest of all of Canada's provinces does not have any specific requirements

8. Quebec - to apply for a Canadian work visa in Quebec, you generally have to have either guaranteed employment or qualifications that are in high demand within the province

9. Saskatchewan - although Saskatchewan looks for immigrants who are either highly skilled in their profession or have worked in a management position, they also take into consideration people who have worked in the province on a temporary work contract for at least 6 months

10. Yukon - arguably the most entrepreneurial requirements of all of the participants, the Yukon territory asks for applicants to have substantial experience in business and who can setup a business in the territory that will have a beneficial effect on the economy.

With 10 different areas to choose from, it's apparent that some ask for people with more skills than others. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the more open the requirements, the easier it is to be accepted and therefore you need to ensure that you apply for a Canadian work visa under the Provincial Nominee Program in the province (or territory) that is most in need of your skills.
