If you want to travel outside your country then passport is really important. It serves as your identity card and signifies your citizenship. A passport is considered very crucial because without a pass port you will not be allowed to enter any counties site.

There is a certain validity period for every passport. Passport is provided for a period of 10 years. After this your passport requires renewal. Renewal of passport is really very simple. A new passport is issued only when the validity of old passport is getting over after 10 years. You can also check the expiry of your passport as it is mentioned clearly on your passport by letter 'F'. You can apply for passport renewal anytime from one year or six months before the expiry of your passport.

There is a specific application form for the Passport Renewal Application of your old passport which is very similar to the form of retrieval of passport. This application is available from any passport service office or center or even post office or else it can be downloaded from internet from official passport website.

You need to submit some documents along with your application form for renewal of your passport. You need to submit your original passport with self attested photocopy of its previous original passport with self attested photocopy of its first and last four pages including the ECR/ECNR page has to be submitted.

If you are minor and you want to renew passport then the applicant does not have an ECNR stamp then the minor applicant will have to provide an attested copy of his matriculation or degree certificate. The other documents that are required are like your telephone bill, ration card, spouse or parental passport copy, gas bill, electricity bill etc. You need to submit these documents along with your passport renewal form.

Along with all the documents and the form the applicant needs to submit the required nominal fees for passport renewal. For adult (36 page) it is Rs 1000 and Rs 1500 for 60 pages and Rs 600 for minor passport renewal.

Once you are done with all the documents and you have completed your application form then you can submit it at the passport office or you can send it via speed post to the passport centers or to your nearest district passport cells or to the collector's office of your area. You can also verify the status of your application on the official government website of passport by entering your file reference number of your application file.
