MBA: Career Enhancement or Pay Package

The much hyped MBA is no more the golden passport for the high salaried lavish lifestyle

but it certainly gives that added advantage of holding a professional degree that makes one stand apart when it comes to employ ability.

Everyone is getting into an MBA programme there is a hype, the media has built around it. But students need to understand why they are doing it. Salary should not be the reason for it; there are many students who are not getting hefty pay packages at the start. But at the same time we cannot generalize this phenomenon that simply because some students have not been able to crack the CAT or other competitive exams, they are not suitable for taking up MBA. There could be mitigating circumstances under which it might not have been possible for them.

Many of the students don't have an idea why they are taking up MBA. Though it certainly gives an edge to your otherwise traditional degree course, it needs to be channelized properly.

It is important to take leadership role in their career. The need for practicing manager is going up. Before doing MBA, you are limited to a field. MBA opens up various options for you. Industry jumping becomes easier as it develops central skills regarding the fields.

While not everyone can get into the top B-Schools, there are many business schools coming into existence to cater to the demand. Most of the times students are confused when it comes to the quality check of these institutes to actually take admission into for a professional course which is very important for the student's career. New B-schools will be coming in as there is tremendous demand. But we tend to generalize them. They need to be given equal opportunities. Each top management institute today was a newbie at some time in the past. Even new top B-Schools are still to get the brand value like the oldies.

The problem lies with employability. The teaching pattern, not the curriculum is at flaw. Even the students perspective points to this scenario. The first question that most students ask is - what's the pay-package? Without bothering about the nature of the job. One of the major reason being good pay packages offered in IT industry and Banking Jobs.
