So many people are trying to find the next best way to get leads for their MLM business. But, thank you to all the social media companies like Facebook, MySpace, Tagged and many others for insuring a place that we all can get to know each other and communicate with people that have the same interests.

The one rule is NO PITCHING. No, I am not talking baseball pitching, I am talking the Billie Mays pitching and becoming a pitch man or woman. Now, let me ask you, if you had a party in your home and it had people you cared about, would you want someone Join My Business, Join My Business? No. However at the same party, if you do not know someone, you learn more about them. Let us say your single, do you ask every man or woman to marry you? Not only asking once but asking every five minutes in your conversation? You may be laughing, but their are some Network Marketing Marketeers out there doing just that about their opportunity. When you are pitching, it may be that you are looking just for another sale and you really do not care about the person you are talking to. Now, many of you know the person I am talking about it, it may be hitting home.

Now, one thing I will tell you is I approach my business as a person out in the desert, the person is crawling up to me telling me how hungry and thirsty they may be. Say my MLM company provided water. Would I let the person struggle and walk away, no. I would get them what they need and you should look at the social medias as being your desert.


The second is be real! Just like I said when explaining the pitching, in a real life situation where you work at a restaurant, you would not walk into a party and talk all night about the restaurant, would you? Of course not!

Now, I talk to many people every day and they feel if they are working on the internet and the social media forums, that they should become an overnight success. You better beware, crawling through the social media sites is a very slow and nurturing process. This is like the backyard barbeques were in the 1960's and 1970's where people got together. They did not pitch their neighbors on first sight. They got to know them, learned what the struggles or issues were and then you talk to them about the possible solution that they found.

Now, let me ask you the question I tell people that they should consider first in their businesses, who is your customers? Say your in Mary Kay, Avon, Nuskin, Beauticontrol, Arbonne or any other personal care product, your customer is not everyone on the face of the earth. Now, you also do not want to market products that you can not talk about passionately. If you are 19 years old, you will struggle selling wrinkle creams. The companies have thousands of products and beyond popular belief, you do not need to market all of them. If you are sincere on benefits you found in a product, how many people will be attracted to you because of that over someone that just wants to get rich off of me.

Now, I talk to a lot of networkers and some on the social medias. I can tell those who are desperate and those who are sincere. Does your company have thousands of products that you have never had a product you did not like? Be honest. Now to get back onto the topic, say your target product was wrinkle creams, how could you find people on Facebook to talk to about your product? Again, it is not only people in there 60's and 70's. My target market would be 35-50 year old women that have used a wrinkle product in the past. I may get involved in discussions with the groups where it is Single Again websites. Why you may ask? If the person was through a bad divorce and may be looking for someone to grow old with, they want to look their best. To reenter a dating scene is hard for some ladies, and they are self conscious and they try to cover up and look younger. So you meet people and find the one or two people you may connect with and I am sure, a conversation may come up about dating and you may share your success with them. NO Your success is not being a business person, it is the success of the product. That is really what they want.

The reason the social media websites are so hot, is because people can see who you are, what you like to do, they learn about you and your family. They then can form an opinion if they want to get to know you. This makes you become real to people you may share information about your business. So be truthful on your website.

Timing can be a funny thing. As I am writing this article, I had an eager business guy start to email me and message me from facebook. He was telling me about his business, and of course, people that get to know me and talk with me will learn, I love to have fun. In all situations there is a learning experience in everything, you just have to pay attention. I am going to call the person Tom just to keep his identity private. I hope he some day stumbles across this and thinks, man that guy was talking about me. Anyway, Tom said what is up, I need to talk to you. And I responded, "Tom, why do you need to talk to me?". He said he had something especially for me and I would look back and find that this could be my best Christmas gift of all. So, I did not tell him who I was completely. I let him get out the rope, limb the tree, wrap the rope around a branch, ad a noose to it and climb the ladder. So, I said Tom what is the gift, you do not know me. He said, yes but that is the good thing, the timing was right and we were on Facebook at the same time. At this point, I knew I had this guy getting ready. He told me he could help me make enough money in the next 24-36 months so I could walk away and be done. Little did he know, I was getting the fork ready to stick him with so I could say he was done. But I asked him how would he propose that I would get all this cash? Did he have a bank robbery planned. He said no, he had a business. I asked did he work for a computer company or a fortune 500 company and he would donate it to me... he had many LOL's on an email and said no he could help me.

I asked him, what product did he have, He said it is the financial freedom was the product that he wanted me to have. At this point I started getting lots of information from him to find out he had just started something, and he did not know alot about it, but he knew he would be free soon. I asked has the person that brought him in made thousands yet, he really did not know. He did not know anything more than wanting to get me on the phone. Well this is where I burst Tom's bubble. I said to him, so the only reason you talked to me is in hopes I would join your deal and you could make money. He said yes, but I would make money just like him too. At this point, I told him No thank you because he should be addressing a need, want and desire I have not the need he has as first priority.

Now, I am not trying to bash anyone, but it was a lack of education on what he could do and could not do, and his technique was lacking. If you were in Tom's shoes, be focused on what can really help the prospect first and if it helps you after that then great. Put the customers first. I hope you learned a little about using Facebook with your MLM business, but you will have more fun getting to know the people first and help second and maybe it will reward you third.
