Maintaining Wall Surfaces Outside of Your Home

Maintaining Wall Surfaces Outside of Your Home

It is important to take care of the wall surfaces outside of your home as you take care of the inside of the home. Maintenance of both is of equal importance and required a lot of time and hard work. Tasks like painting wall rendering takes a lot of time and you may need to hire a contractor for doing this task for you.

Cement Render (high maintenance)

This is a type of wall surface, which is considered to be a very versatile and can be painted to any color of your choice. Regular maintenance will keep the wall last long, but cement render is capable of deteriorating rapidly, if neglected.

Repairing Render: Repairing a render isn't a tough task. Just mix a new render according to the instructions given on the packet. Instructions must be followed. Use a wire brush to brush off all the loose chips. Take a PVA sealant and prime the area with it. Now, take a steel float and smooth the render onto the wall. First, it will just sit below the surrounding surface. Let it dry for some time and then apply the second coat of the render, until it blends into the surrounding surface.

Painting Render (high maintenance): you have to choose a perfect day for painting render. Don't paint in wet weather or when it's too hot because both the conditions affect the paint. First you have to clean the previous paint work with a hard brush. Before going to start with your painting job, it is important to fill up the cracks and worn patches. Use a roller or an extension pole to paint the render. You can also hire a paint spray system to paint the render. Whether you are using a ladder or a moveable scaffold tower, make sure that they are always securely placed.

Brick (low maintenance)

If you have noticed that the bricks on your home take too long to dry after rain, brick may have become absorbent. Sometimes, you see the deposits of mould growth on the bricks as well. To remove the deposits, take help from hard wire brush and also you can use paint on some special brick protection.

Stone (low maintenance)

Though, natural stones look good, but they sustain dirt and mould growth over time. Use hard wire brush to remove the mould. You can also take help from the mixture of one part of bleach and four part of water. Apply this solution on the mould growth and scrub it off with brush.

Cement paint can also be used to hide cracks on the stonework around doors and windows. It also gives some attractive look to natural stonework.

Timber (high maintenance)

Unpainted wood is more prone to moisture. Therefore, a regular sealing work is required to keep the moisture away. There are several products available in the market that can be used to re-seal the wood regularly. Make sure that you read instructions carefully before using any product.
