Make Your Drives Longer And Straighter

When you can drive the ball far and straight, it makes you feel great

. To hit those drives that you wish for,your body and swing must all work together and be in sync.

Accuracy is just as crucial as hitting for distance. There is not a golfer out there, who does not want to hit the ball for both distance and accuracy. You can do this with practice.

When we say hit the ball straight, we are not talking about a absolutely straight drive. Some players swings, naturally promote a fade or draw. So, when we say straight, we mean pretty close to where you wanted the ball to go.

Also, when we say far, this could mean different things to different people. Many golfers will hit the ball under 200 yards and they are fine with that. While others will hit the ball 300 yards. So let's take a look at how we can get your drives long and straight.

The set-up is where we will begin:

The set-up, will set the tone for the rest of the swing. You must align yourself to your target. You need to bend forward at the waist and have your knees bent a little. If you are a right hand golfer, you need to place the ball roughly 4 1/2" left of center. Grip the club normally. Let your arms hang naturally.

Now, let's take a look at swing speed:

You can actually overswing. On your backswing, slow your tempo down. At the peak of your backswing, hesitate for a couple of seconds. This will let you begin your downswing with your hips, followed by your shoulders and arms. An increase in clubhead speed, will add distance to your drives. To achieve this, you need to incorporate your whole body in your swing. Every part of your body must be in sync and meet at impact.

Next, we will look at balance:

Balance is key, if you want to hit your drives farther. Staying balanced is vital and it all starts with your set-up and swing tempo. If you swing too hard, you will lose your balance, as well as distance and accuracy of your drives.

Accuracy should trump distance, when trying to perfect your swing.

If you can hit the ball real far, but, it is always in some hazard, it will probably cost you more strokes, than if you just kept it in play with a shorter drive.
