Making A Resume -- This Information Will Help You Succeed!

Making a resume stand out from the the crowd may seem like an impossible task

. When you consider that most employers state that they receive anywhere from dozens to hundreds of resumes each day.

I often think about that fact and wonder how on earth they have time to actually do anything with that many resumes coming in. Then I remember they don't actually sit there behind a desk reading every resume in full. Let's face it, it would be silly to expect them to!

Employers have learned to skim over the resumes they receive. They already have an image in their mind of what they are looking for as far as qualifications are concerned. So, generally speaking, they look for two things:

Reasons to disqualify you.

Reasons to consider you.

Like I said, that is generally speaking of what they are doing. You need to always keep those two things in mind when making a resume.

Let me give you a couple of examples of how an employer can quickly disqualify you:

You apply for a certain job position and in your objective statement you specifically mention you are seeking a different job position. Now, looking at this from the employer's perspective, if they are in great need of filling a position for a clerical person it doesn't matter if you are the greatest electrician in the world (and seeking an electrician position). To the employer, you've just wasted 5 seconds of their time. They are looking for a clerical worker not an electrician.

You apply for a job specifically mentioning certain skills are required and yet your resume does not mention any of the skills or even any related skills that can be "mapped" to the skills they require.

Okay, so those are two examples of ways employers quickly disqualify job seekers based on information the resume contains and information the resume does not contain. This really isn't rocket science and making a resume can be easy and fun providing you know the vital information such as you have just learned in this article.
