Cupcakes are a very popular style of cake, small decorative and original. They are very much the rage at the moment with people even having them as layered wedding cakes. I myself love to make cupcakes with my nieces. Its a great afternoon activity, with the obvious reward at the end. It is also a great way to start to learn the art of baking. Although very simple to bake the real art with cupcakes is the topping, this is always my stumbling block! Bored of the usual pink, red or yellow buttercream icing. A great way around this is to use cupcake decorating kits.

There are many baking accessories available, my favourite are the ones with the edible cake decorations that come within a complete baking kit. One particular kit has everything that you need to make gorgeous cupcakes that are fantastic for parties or to give as a gift. The kit contains a recipe card for perfect buttercream and cupcakes and 24 assorted colourful muffin cases. My favourite part of the kits are the silver cake glitter and brush and the stunning assortment of edible cake decorations. In my opinion the best three are the flower kit which has a range of 12 flowers, featuring daisies, roses and poppies. This kit makes very pretty and delicate cupcakes perfect for a little girls birthday party. The butterfly kit is a real treat, the 12 butterfly decorations are stunning and come in a beautiful mix of colours and patterns, they really do create some beautiful cupcakes. The dinosaur kit is perfect for little boys parties, the 12 dinosaur toppers feature a fantastic mix of creatures.

The finished cakes look so professional and displayed at a party they go down a real treat. I have even started to veer away from the traditional sponge cake and now make a range of cupcakes from carrot cake to ginger cakes. Although I must admit that the traditional sponge cupcakes are still my favourite.
