Growing up I was terrified of speaking in public and with my parents both actors at the local theatre it happened more than once that I had to get up on stage. Those were by far the most terrifying experiences of my life. And no matter how much my parents tried and how much practice I got I was still petrified and hated the whole thing.

Even growing up I still had that fear that would burst up uninvited when I least expected it. So even when I was about to get married I didn't have second thoughts thinking about my husband or if we make a good pair but rather if I could actually walk up in front of those people. As you can imagine it had gotten rather pathological.

And I thought I had seen it all as I wasn't about to get impressed by some make money speaking in public book. Still he was a good friend so I started reading it while I was waiting for the confirmation from the camera crew, the photographer, the wedding planner. As you can imagine I was very jitterish and the book calmed me down.

But then reading about how this guy was encouraging people to build rapport and intimacy with the public, how to build a speech and even how great actors like Pacino, who's been a favorite of mine since childhood, could not only stand in front of thousands but actually be the center of attention in an almost seamless way I began to think that I could myself walk down the aisle confident and charming.

Need I say it? After I finished reading Making the Bucks for Getting the Yuks I was so confident that I actually became the life of the party. I was able to use the public speaking techniques described in the book to tell jokes to my husband's grandparents whom had always intimidated me.
