Male Pattern Hair Loss and its Causes
Men suffer from baldness at all ages
Men suffer from baldness at all ages. More than one quarter of men in their 20's and 2/3rd of all men who have crossed the age of 60 suffer from hair loss. Men are affected socially as well as psychologically by
hair loss. Baldness is a result of damaged or shrunken hair follicles. On an average , one follicle lives for about 5 years, out of which 4 years are spent growing. Testosterone is a hormone which is present in males. An enzyme 5 alpha reductase converts it in to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The follicles are affected adversely and the growth is slowed down, which leads to hair loss. The hair follicles are damaged and they are not replaced with new ones. Male pattern baldness is slow but irreversible in the later stages.
