Malta Hotels For Film Fans
If youre a bit of a film buff, then choosing Malta hotels shouldnt be too difficult
. With many iconic movies having been filmed on the Mediterranean island, it is the destination of choice for those who know their epic films. Find cheap hotels on the island and the money you save on hotel deals can be put to much better use exploring the various film locations around the island.
There are many Malta hotels across the island that are within easy reach of the stunning scenery that has provided the perfect backdrop to a number of truly epic movies. Gladiator, Troy and Alexander are perhaps the three best known of the Malta movies, so make sure that you know the spots where each was filmed before you choose from the hotel deals around the island.
If Russell Crowe captured your imagination in Gladiator, head to Fort Ricasoli; here the battle scenes were filmed in a replica of Romes Coliseum. If Colin Farrell is more your type, then Vallettas Grand Harbour is where you should search for hotel deals, the area having doubled for Alexandrias ancient port city in the film, Alexandra. However, if you prefer tales of love and romantic entanglement and a bit of Brad Pitt then Malta is the perfect location for you; scenes from Troy were filmed in Fort Ricasoli, Mellieha and Comino so there are plenty of places that you might recognise from the film. Neither a Roman warrior nor a captain of Troy will be waiting for you, but the sensational landscapes will more than make up for it.
If the slightly more steamy scenes in the 2002 production of the Count of Monte Cristo got your pulse racing, then search for cheap hotels close to Valletta. The more explicit scenes were filmed just below the islands Fort St. Elmo but several other areas also feature in the movie, including St Pauls Cathedral, and St Marys Tower on the island of Comino.
The view from Comino might also be familiar to those who are Guy Ritchie fans, as the film Swept Away by Ritchie and Madonna included scenes in the Blue Lagoon on Comino. The island is within easy reach from Malta hotels and well worth a visit both to enjoy reliving the film and also to enjoy one of the best snorkelling spots in the area.
Finally, for those that really love the movies, be sure to consider the location of the Mediterranean Film Studios when youre choosing hotel deals. Built in 1963, the studio offers a unique shallow water tank which is often used for filming underwater scenes and is a fascinating place to visit as part of a movie buffs holiday to Malta. As youre choosing Malta hotels, think back to your favourite of the films made in Malta and youll find the decision of which hotel to choose is made for you.
