Maltese Training - 5 Useful Tips

A Maltese is a very gentle, sweet and affectionate dog. A Maltese is an excellent family pet that is small in size and weighs about 10 lbs only. They have soft silky coat of hair which does not shed much. These dogs usually don't get along well with children but are great with other pets.

Here are 5 useful tips for training your Maltese:

1. As Maltese can be difficult to house train, you need to use crates for an effective way. It easily helps with house training process. Besides housebreaking, it also helps in making your Maltese feel secure in her crate. With the help of crates, you can also prevent her from chewing anything she gets in her way. She can relax, eat, play with her toy and sleep in her crate. In fact, she can spend most of her time in the crate which means she will be safe even when you are on a long tour.

2. You should establish dominance or leadership in front of your Maltese. As dogs are pack animals, your Maltese also need a leader for guiding her. If you become the leader for her, then she will obey anything you command for. Remember not to establish dominance with rough and harsh methods. Instead control the important activities of your Maltese and dominate her by giving commands in a serious tone.

3. Give your Maltese few treats or toys while giving her commands. It will motivate her to complete your commands quickly to get the treats. This positive way of training a dog is very useful and effective.

4. Socializing is also necessary to turn your Maltese into well behaved, obedient and disciplined pet. For socializing, expose her to other pets, peoples, places and sounds. This kind of frequent interaction will help her become a stable and calm adult dog.

5. It is important to groom you Maltese regularly. Grooming include works like brushing, ear cleaning, bathing, cleaning around the eyes, nail trimming, etc. While grooming also, motivate you Maltese through treats. Maltese training will be successful if you work with positivity for every activity.
