Many Benefits Of Flaxseed Oil
I cannot honestly remember when I first heard about the benefits of flaxseed oil but I am glad I did
. As explained in the article summary it is important for us to get Omega 3 into our body. Omega 3 is a fatty acid as they help with our day to day metabolism.
I like and enjoy fish but I would only eat fish maybe two or three times a month. Clearly that provides me with some Omega 3 but sadly not enough and so I use flaxseed oil as a daily supplement. You can of course also take fish oil but I tried that once and it was not the most pleasant taste I have ever experienced.
Flaxseed oil has a nutty taste and I find that a whole lot easier to take and digest and the good news is that it also comes in capsule form for those who don't like any taste in your mouth. Flaxseed oil also contains Omega 9 and various vitamins and minerals and so you can enjoy the benefits of those as well. It is made from 100% natural products so no need to worry about any bad side effects.
The seeds actually come from the flax plant and when these are pressurised and squeezed an oil is produced. Flax is more commonly known as a plant that was used in days gone by to make cotton. It is still used for this purpose in some countries.
There are slightly different health benefits for men and women who take flaxseed oil as a supplement. However there are some generic benefits that apply to everyone irrespective of their sex. These are the lubrication of ageing joints, better skin, help with arthritis, and is very good for the heart generally. You will hear one thousand other claims but the ones I have mentioned have a strong foundation. Much is talked about using this oil as part of a weight loss program but I could find only a little evidence to support this claim.
Quite a few books have been written about the benefits of flaxseed oil for those with cancer. Dr Johanna Budwig is one such author and if this interests you then I would recommend looking her up and seeing what she has to say on the subject. It certainly makes interesting reading.
The ones I listed are enough for me and if I get any other added benefits then I simply view that as being a nice bonus. Another thing to consider is the cost and they are not really expensive. It is about $5 for 1,000mg so for me well worth the investment. The cheapest way to purchase the oil is in what is called a soft gel form. One great tip is that if you ever make a purchase keep it out of direct sunlight or heat. Flaxseed does not have a great shelf life and keeping it in the fridge will prolong this quite a bit.
Like most plant oils such as olive oil, flaxseed oil is unsaturated so that by itself makes it a healthy choice. It is also an ideal supplement to take for those of you who are vegetarian.
