Perth is essentially divided by two rivers and often people refer to these areas as north of the river or south. The river is called the Swan River which provides residents with several outdoor recreational activities.

North of the river in Perth are located some of the choice properties. These properties tend to be higher in price than in other places in Perth mainly due to its location. This section of Perth is close to the river, yet easily accessible to the city. Many properties north of the river in Perth offer stunningly panoramic views of the Swan River. Due to the beautiful views and choice location, many professionals and business people reside in this area of Perth.

Areas south of the river in Perth all vary in the look and neighbourhood feel. Some suburbs within this section are quite picturesque with leafy tree lined streets and houses with views of the river. Areas south of the river have varying price ranges; none of which are as high as properties north of the river in Perth.

Much of the southern portion of Perth is a combination of apartment homes, as well as old and new houses. Along the river one can find mostly apartment homes which tend to block out river views of single family dwellings.

Many individual suburbs of the southern area of Perth have quaint coffee shops and store fronts. Some of these are within walking distance of several properties within Perth. In fact, in southern Perth it is not uncommon for people to be out and about walking around town or strolling along the river.

Properties in Perth vary in size, age, and design. McMansions are one type of house in Perth which are not really mansions at all. These houses are grandeur from the outside giving an idea that the house is quite large, but this really is not the case. Other houses include smaller weatherboard homes which may be smaller but are quite charming. These homes are typically on larger lots in suburbs throughout Perth.

Perth, Australia has many suburbs which host various kinds of properties in which families or professional single persons can reside. Each suburb has a different feel and offers a specific lifestyle for each kind of resident.
