Maruti To Set-up 4th Plant In India By 2013
Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) stated last week that
it is planning to set-up its fourth manufacturing plant in the country by year 2013. The new plant will be established at the company's Manesar facility. It seems like the company is aggressively working on its expansion plans in its domestic market as it is planning to establish the fourth plant while the third plant is still under construction at Manesar. At present, the company has two factories in the country - at Gurgaon and Manesar.
According to a statement given by company's chairman R.C. Bhargav to a leading news daily in India, the second plant of the company at Manesar is expected to be operational in 2011 and thus the company will obviously look for the third plant (at that site).
The plans for the fourth plant of the company are at very initial stage as of now and the company is working on a project survey report regarding this plant. Currently, the total annual manufacturing capacity of the company is about 10 lakh units in India that will be increased to 12.5 lakh units as soon as its third plant goes operational. Going on the same line, the fourth plant will add another 2.5 lakh units in the company's annual production capacity and will take it to 15 lakh units.
The establishment of these new plants will not only help the company in regaining the crucial market share of more than 50 percent in its domestic market but also bring down the mounting waiting periods of some of its popular cars. At present, the delivery period for some of its popular cars like
Maruti Swift Dzire has reached up to 3 to 4 months due to massive supply constraints.
The company currently sells some of the most popular cars in the Indian market such as Maruti Alto, Wagon R, Swift and Swift Dzire.
