We live in stressful times. Not only is there the added stress of information overload, the times that we live in are wrought with dangers. We are in the middle of a severe recession and we are in a complicated war that has many fronts at the same time that all of these other things are going on. The domestic crime rate is high, and drug crime and violence are creeping across the border with Mexico. Our children are under severe peer pressure and so are the parents.
The modern technology that we have makes for a much faster paced world and the additional stressors that it introduces. People now drive and talk on the phone at the same time, whereas less than fifty years ago most of us walked everywhere where we wanted to go, and many of us didnt have telephones in our homes. I myself go home at night and watch TV while I work on my computer until past midnight each night while I keep my cell phone close at hand just in case I get a business call.

Use essential oils when you massage your body because they are so very beneficial to your health. They sooth the muscles while they nourish the skin with numerous healing and regenerative ingredients. I highly recommend almond oil as the essential oil of choice for massage because it is so light and easily absorbed by the skin. There are others which are excellent to use for massage but the almond oil is my personal preference.
You can mix lavender or the Egyptian musk body oil with the almond oil to give more of a soothing effect. The fragrance of these oils does calm the mind therefore they are good to use in a relaxing massage.
Heat is a good tool to use when applying massage because it causes constricted cells to relax and expand. Heat causes blood to flow freely and easily which increases the nutrients that the muscles and skin sells receive. It is good to heat your oil before application so that you can maximize the effects of heat. It is also good to apply friction in the form of rubbing which also produces extra heat. Use these two forms of applying heat to work synergistically and improve the process.
Two other ways to make a massage more relaxing are to use pastel colors and gentle speech. If you utilize all of these techniques together you can maximize the benefits of massage to reduce stress.
