The Environment Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh had come to a conclusion that it was the biggest oil spill India had experienced and its impact was massive on the Economics, Environment and Logistics. The oil investors today think twice before they jump into some contract. When the accident was further investigated, it was realized that the vessel had 1200 containers out of which about 300 containers were of fuel. Overall there were thirty three crew members, including two Pakistanis. They were all rescued in the operations. The oil spill could have had a major effect on the environment, polluting it to the core but to avoid it, six coast guards vessels along with a helicopter moved with anti- pollution dispersal spray system. In the first week of August, India experienced one of its biggest oil losses. An international cargo ship collided into another vessel, resulting in an oil spill in the Indian waters. The two cargo ships were 10kms away from the Mumbai harbor, when this accident happened and the ship carrying 300 containers of oil tumbled and spilled nearly 50 tons of oil.

The Two Panamanian cargo ships MSC Chitra and MV Khalijia-111 collided on Saturday off the Mumbai coast causing an oil spill from one of the vessels. The rescue operations were technologically driven.

To bring the situation under control a high-level, priority meeting was held, which had the attendance of the officials of the Maharashtra government, Mumbai Municipal Corporation, National Disaster Response force, Shipping Department, Mumbai Port Trust, Maharashtra environment department and other agencies. The situation was brought under control in a very short span of time.Certain checks have been maintained. Weeks after the mishap, the Ships were not allowed to navigate through the same route because huge pieces and potions of the ship were still found floating in the channel and they could be hazardous in navigating. More over the fishing association has been elaborately made understood of the scenario and they have been warned from carrying out fishing activities. This has affected their business and their households the most.
