Hubli or Hubballi, a major city in Karnataka, is one of the key producers of cotton and peanuts in India

. It is the headquarters of the South Western Railway Zone. Hubballi literally means flowering creeper which is found in abundance in this area.

Old Hubli, also known as the Rayara Hubli, is a major trading centre for cotton and iron. Railway workshop here was set up in the 1880s. A number of industries have been set up in Hubli in the past few years which include leather and goods industry, steel furniture, food processing and electrical and machine tools industry.

The major tourist attraction in Hubli is the Chandramouleshwara Temple, which is dating back to the period of Chalukyas. Another Chalukyan temple here is the Bhavanishankar Temple. Other places of tourist interest here include Nrupatunga Hill, Sayed Fateh Shah Vali, Unkal Lake and Glass House. The Glass House here is almost similar to the one in Bangalore which was built by Tipu Sultan.

The distance from Hubli to Bangalore, state capital, is around 400 km. Bangalore has architectural landmarks, natural lakes, gardens and parks. The Silicon Valley of India, as Bangalore is called now, is a major exporter of Information Technology from India. Both Hubli and Bangalore are well connected by air, rail and road. Hubli has a railway head and an airport with direct flights to Bangalore. Two sets of trains Dadar-Puducherry Express and Dadar-Yeshwantnagar Chalukya Express run six days of the week from Hubli to Bangalore and back. Hubli-Bangalore Humpi Express (No.16591) is a daily popular night train starting from Hubli in the evening and reaching the destination at 6.10 in the morning. This train covers the distance from Hubli to Bangalore in nearly 12 hours

The travellers also prefer road mode of transport to travel from Hubli to Bangalore. State Road Transport Corporation and private operators run regular bus services in this route. The bus fare ranges from Rs.300 to Rs.600. On the other hand, taxi services are available in this route. Taxis charge a fare ranging from Rs.7000 to Rs.10000 depending on the type of vehicle the travellers prefer to hire. The time taken to travel from Hubli to Bangalore by road is about seven hours.
