Medical Delivery: Speedy, Efficient And The Right Temperature
Courier services deliver just about anything, just about anywhere
, but their distribution logistics are such that they can only specialize in limited deliveries of some items to some areas. For example, consider medical specimens.
Medical specimens, which include blood, tissue, skin and DNA samples, are certainly items that must be, in order to be effectual, delivered as fresh from their source as possible. A medical delivery of such samples from New York to, say, a lower Boston suburb, unless done by a super fast private jet (a cost that would be prohibitive for most), would not result in a successful delivery. The specimen simply would not arrive in a timely manner. A police forensics lab, for example, might ship medical samples of a crime scene locally; international shipping would be problematic.
Now, when we do get a fresh medical specimen for shipment, how do we handle it? Obviously we do so with great care, and with special shipping equipment. All medical shipments are sent in temperature-controlled refrigerated delivery vans or trucks, where the atmosphere is constantly kept within absolutely safe limits to preserve the samples, so they arrive as perfectly preserved as possible.
There are specified routes for each of these shipments as well, and most courier services work these out to coincide with minimal traffic, so that the specimens have less time to sit in the refrigerator. Even though they are safely preserved, they are obviously not being utilized while we have them, and satisfying our customer, by making samples fresh and viable and immediately available, is our top priority.
This is especially true of hospital deliveries, which courier services accomplish on a daily basis and at all hours. Some medical labs have constant need for specific supplies. Their delivery schedule, which is both regular and timed to the minute, requires not only scrupulous attention to detail in completion but also the utmost care in handling specimens. Our drivers, once their shipments are released for hospital deliveries, are trained to deal with every eventuality and to make their stops on time and on track, since lives depend on our speed and efficiency. This is an instance where distribution logistics must be exact.
Medical specimen delivery requires special handling, special attention and above all special delivery. Your courier service realizes that human life and vital results, whether in a medical facility or a crime lab, are hanging in the balance, and this is a responsibility they take seriously.
