Medical Negligence Explained

The injury claims industry can be extremely complex

. It's for this reason that many victims of accidents use professional claims management firms and solicitors when claiming compensation.

Many different types of accidents can lead to an accident claim, with injuries in the workplace, accidents on the road or maybe a fall or a trip. There is an aspect of the industry that we are hearing more about in recent times and this is "medical negligence claims". What is medical negligence exactly and why does it lead to claims when it happens to somebody?

As the name suggests, a medical negligence claim is a claim against medical staff, including but not limited to nurses and doctors which, through negligence on their part, has resulted in the worsening of a patient's condition. In the worst case scenario, medical negligence may result in death. Medical negligence claims could include mistakes made by dentists, surgeons, doctors, the wrong dosage of medication, the wrong medication and even a misdiagnosis that leads to a patient's condition worsening.

Medical negligence cases can be particularly distressing for the patient and their family, particularly because it is in the care of medical professionals that we are supposed to get better and see our health improve. For a patient to find their health worsening as a direct result of a mistake or negligence on the part of the people caring for them is undoubtedly devastating.

The flip side to this argument is that like everyone else, medical staff are only human. They will inevitably make mistakes. The problem is when you are in the medical field your mistakes could cause massive damage to the health of your patients. The legal team in these situations must work out whether it is somebody being careless, or whether the mistake was unavoidable and should go down as human error, and as you can imagine this is not an easy job!
