. Shoes say a lot about a man. They say you can figure out from a mans shoes where they come from, where they have been and what they are up to.

So much is said out of mans shoes that it would be foolhardy not carefully choose one that suits you. Different kinds of dress shoes go with different occasions and different dress patterns.

Composition of dress shoes

Mens dress shoes are worn at more formal event. Though dress shoe have become more of a standard daily shoe and are worn at parties and special occasions. Usually dress shoes come in Black and brown colors. Some of the other colors are burgundy, Oxblood, chestnut, cordovan or white. Even then black is considered to be the most formal dress shoe color since time immemorial. The construction of colors depends upon ones personal taste but it is better to follow some dress conventions at a particular event so as not to offend people. Dress shoes are made out of leather almost entirely and sometimes come with rubber soles. Formal dress shoes have different formations. Lace-up shoes are considered more formal than slip-ons. A closed-lacing is more formal than open-lacing. Brogues are patterns of perforations that look decorative but bring down the formality of the shoe.

Different types of dress shoes

Different types of dress shoes have different shapes and perforations.

Brogues have punching in different patterns while full brogues have a toe-cap in wavy shape with patterns punched on different sections of the shoe. Half-brogues have normal straight toe cap and least punching while a quarter-brogue would have the lowest brogueing.

Mens Dress Shoes can be differentiated with brogueing, Shape patterns and occasions. They have been divided into four broad categories.

1.Balmoral

These are some of the most worn oxford Mens footwear. These are sleek, contemporary and most often bought in solid colors like black and brown which are considered conservative colors appropriate for any season. They are made in cap toe, plain toe, whole cut and a brogue. It is worn with suit but sometimes can be matched with a sports jacket or an odd trouser. It does not however look good with jeans or chinos. It would be better to buy a plain styled oxford which never goes out of fashion.

2.Boots

They are worn when weather dictates protection of feet. They should not be worn with a suit and are considered more a part of informal attire. They are appropriate for a sports jacket and jeans.

3.Bluchers

They are considered less formal than Bal oxfords and are differentiated with the pattern of lacing.

They can be worn with a suit but Are more appropriate with a jacket or odd trousers. They are made out of mixed leather and suede. Some of the common ones are moccasins, saddle shoes and derbys.

4.Loafers (slip-ons)

These are made for comfort and are the least dressy choice. They are worn with jackets, odd trousers, Chinos and jeans. They are used while travelling as well as they are easy to slip-on and off.
