In metal music there a sub category called Death Metal
. This is another category of heavy metal music. Death metal also has sub genres of metal music. The style of death metal has different elements, like deep growling vocals, double bass drumming, heavy distorted guitars and various tempo changes with complex song structures.
Death Metal Beginning
If the rumors are true than death metal orginated from thrash metal. In the mid 1980s there was bands starting to brach out to the public. Slayer, Kreator and Celtic Frost were some of the first bands that fit into this genre of music. In the late 1980s and early 1990s bands like Morbid Angel and Possessed began to rise up from the underground community.
Structure of Music
Death Metal music usually has 5 people to a band, two guitarists, bass guitarist, drummer and singer. They all have different styles of play. The guitarists have downturned guitars and the drummer has a double bass pedal or kick drums. This genre has been know to have complex music. Death metal puts lots of heavy distortion and bass in their music. They will have very fast guitar riffs and deep growls in their vocals. The deep growling vocals have been a trait of death metal music.
Death Metal and Luciferianism
Death metal has always been tied with dark meaning or with the devil. Some bands this has been true with worshipping the devil. Maybe it's the violent lyrics and distortion style of death metal. Death metal songs are about various topics in life, which have nothing to do with the devil. They write about love, happiness, hate, sadness or about a life experience. 99% of death metal songs fit in these five categories.
Other Types of Death Metal
There are many subgenres of death metal that have broken off. These are some of the more popular subgenres of death metal.
Melodic
This is the same variations of the typical death metal. It has the same features and elements as death metal with more melodic singing. In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity have expanded this to one of the most popular forms of death metal.
Technical Death Metal
Technical Death Metal is a break off of progressive rock and classical music. It has its own song with lots of harmonies and melodies. The different feature you will find is their uncommon time signatures. Bands like Opeth, Edge of Sanity and Cryptosy fit into this category.
Death Doom Death Metal
This genre of death metal music will have a slower tempo than other death metal genres, keeping the same elements from both doom metal and death metal.
Blackened
When bands fit into either black metal or death metal, some will just call it blackened death metal. This is where Blasphemy, Zyklon and Behemoth fit into.
Goregrind
This death metal subgenre is an insane intensity and speed in their music. But with being very complex and deep death growl vocals keeps it in the death metal family. Bands that are included are Circle of Death Children, Cephalic Carnage, and Brujeria.
Deathcore
Death core is very similar to deathgrind but more elements of death metal. The style has fast drumming, guitars and growled vocals. Job for a Cowboy, Salt the Wound and Suicide Silence continue to grow this genre of death metal music.
