Military Flight Suits

Military flight suits have been used by the military ever since planes were first put into use

. They are typically today, a one piece garment which is worn whilst in flight to ensure that the pilot is kept warm at all times. They also serve a variety of practical applications with lots of pockets for important tools and pens. Most military flight suits are also fire retardant to minimize the risk to the pilot should a fire occur something which is a real risk when dealing with military aircrafts.

Military Flight Suits of the Past

In the past, military flight suits were typically made up of two pieces. If you have ever seen an old war movie from World War One, then you may have seen old military flight suits which typically consisted of leather trousers and a leather jacket. These were used because they were warm but they were not always so convenient. That is why, in World War Two, one piece military flight suits were developed. These were generally much more convenient and allowed pilots to stay much warmer in the freezing conditions they faced.

All good military flight suits now feature lots of zippered pockets which can be used to store important objects and prevent them from falling out during flight. When difficult manoeuvres are performed, it is important that all important instruments and objects are not lost and are kept in a place where they can be easily accessed and zippered military flight suits helped to achieve this.

The G Suit

Eventually the most important of all military flight suits, the G suit was invented. This is a suit which will protect the wearer from the effects of physical stresses which occur during acceleration when the body is compressed. These are most often worn by those military personnel who are to carry out very difficult manoeuvres.

Nomex

Today, most military personnel will wear a Nomex flight suit which is made from a very lightweight, fire retardant material which is ideal for protecting against fire and allowing the pilot to remain comfortable throughout his flight.
