Senior Phone: Why Get One?

Senior phones are for senior citizens who need to stay in touch

. That pretty much means all seniors whether they like it or not.

A senior citizen by the classic definition is anyone over 65 years of age by the way. This is a classification that many people resist but the commonality in this group is their unwillingness to try new things and their inability to use electronic products that have very small type fonts.

Many seniors are part of a generation that did not feel the need to stay in touch so constantly as does the present generation. They got by just fine with a quarter and a phone booth and didn't feel the need to do anything extra when cell phones came along. Of course some seniors embraced the new technology but many did not and those are the ones we are talking about in this article.

These are the reasons seniors need a senior phone...

Safety - It is simply not safe these days to be out and about without a cell phone. If something happens to you there is just no point in not having a device that will allow you to communicate with the world at large and get yourself out of any situation that you find yourself in.

Convenience - let's face it, it is just more convenient to be able to communicate from a device that you have in your pocket versus having to find a phone somewhere where you are. Pay phones are a thing of the past and it doesn't matter how many quarters you keep in your pocket you will not be able find one in most places these days. Seniors are in many cases tied to the past technology-wise and don't realize that this phenomenal tectonic electronic shift in society has occurred. Much less they do not want to admit that these changes have happened either.

These the reasons a senior phone is better than a regular phone for some people...

Big buttons - With a cell phone for the elderly, the buttons are enormous. Senior citizens will have no trouble finding the correct numbers and dialing them. Unlike with a conventional phone, where the numbers are small and it takes someone much younger to not be frustrated by the size of the small type font.

Simplified calling plans - The calling plans available with senior phones are also very straightforward. There is typically no data available so the phones don't have that feature and cost a lot less. Although there are monthly subscriptions available they have tended to be an order of magnitude less than with a conventional phone.

In summary, cell phones for seniors are a very important aspect of making sure you or a senior friend is taken care of.
