Modern Chiropractic

Though upon its founding in the late nineteenth century, it has come to achieve near universal acceptance and utilization.Among the early criticism of chiropractic were that it was unscientific and unsound. Claims as to it's being more a "mystical" practice not based in any medical or scientific proof were aimed at chiropractic in its early days. Further arguments arose saying that many of its tenets such as innate intelligence or subluxation had no basis in modern medical theory and should be dismissed as unsound at the best, and harmful at the worst. This however has little basis as chiropractic's founder, D. D. Palmer, was well versed in the medical journals published at the time. Furthermore, many of these claims have proven to be unsubstantiated as is evidenced by the worldwide acceptance of chiropractic in the modern day. Today, practitioners of chiropractic are just as, if not more, rigorously trained as other medical practitioners. Doctors of chiropractic, as they are known, often study as long as other medical doctors with the same stringent requirements. They are, like other doctors, required to study four years of pre-med before another four years of full time study specializing in chiropractic. Also like doctors of medicine, chiropractors are rigorously maintained by a governing body that oversees proper procedures and guidelines for the practice of chiropractic. In the main, chiropractic therapy is associated with addressing discomfort in the lower back and neck. As chiropractic deals with the manipulation of the vertebrae, these are indeed prime candidates for receiving benefits from the treatment. More than that though, even ifchiropractic is usually associated with the treatment of back-pain, its scope in fact covers a much broader range than only the spine. Treatments in chiropractic are also used to address issues and ailments in the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic therapy is for the most part a non-invasive procedure requiring only manual manipulation of the spine by the chiropractor to treat symptoms or pain. More than pain in the spine and muscles, recent tests have also shown that chiropractic is a highly effective treatment for migraines and other headaches, at par with some drugs used for the same purpose. In closing, though chiropractic is may have started out as a controversial practice, it has matured to a modern and widely accepted medical procedure. All in all, chiropractic is an excellent way to address and deal with pain and other symptoms.
