. Home to Lord Krishna, the present day Dwarka is the seventh city to be built in the same area, the others having been submerged under the sea.

Dwarka is renowned for the numerous temples that dot the river bank like the Dwarkadheesh Temple, Nageshwar Mahadev Temple, Rukmini Temple, Bhalka Tirth Temple, Gomati Ghat Temple and the Samudra Narayana Temple.

Ahmedabad is the largest city of Gujarat and is an important industrial hub. Ahmedabad has grown immensely as a tourist hotspot in western India and some of the main sightseeing options of the city are Gandhi Aashram, Sidi Sayed Mosque, Bhadra Fort, Heritage Houses of poles, Akshardham Temple, Vaishnodevi Temple, International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple, Amar dham, Kamla Nehru Zoo, Calico Textile Museum, and Law Garden, Juma Masjid, Jhulta Minara, Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum, Swaminarayan Gurukul, Veechar Utensil Museum, and the Auto World Vintage Car Museum.

The distance between Dwarka and Ahmedabad is about 450 km. The most affordable way of travel would be through railways, even though travel by car would be more comfortable. The nearest Railway Station, Okha Railway station is at about 28 km from Dwarka. It is always better to book tickets well in advance if travelling by train from the IRCTC web portal or across the numerous railway reservation counters.

The nearest airport is Jamnagar which is 121 km from Dwarka. Ahmedabad is well connected domestically as well as internationally through daily flights. Some of the major airlines, including Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher and Jetlite have flights daily between the two cities. The flying time is around 1 hour. With the introduction of low cost airlines, flying has become easier.

There are innumerable buses, including normal and luxury class, from Dwarka to Ahmedabad. One can choose either government run or private buses. The private run buses, though costlier, are highly recommended to those in need of luxury and comfort as these are usually very comfortable to travel in. State operated bus service run ordinary to deluxe buses from Dwarka to Ahmedabad for a fare of about Rs 400. They take around 6 hours to reach from Dwarka to Ahmedabad. The bus stand near Dwarka is located at a distance of 21 km in Mithapur. From here, a taxi can be hired to reach from Dwarka. The roads from Dwarka to Ahmedabad are well laid.

Taxis are also available but they tend to be costly and will cost to the upwards of INR 6000/-. Hiring taxi is suggested to travelers on a splurge budget or when travelling with family consisting of children or elders.
