What are active alarms?
Active alarms are devices that make the sensors pick up the motion or movement in the area surrounding it. Once it has detected any movement, the alarm is activated to give off the siren or sound. There are alarms that do not give off the irritating sound, instead they distribute floodlights. Sometimes, the motion sensors turn on the security alarm to notify the home alarm system company.
What are passive alarms?
A passive sensor is one that does not send off alarming sound or signal when it detects movements. It is only used to monitor the changing motion. It only picks up heat signals.
There are four different types of sensors, three of them are active and only one is passive. The three active sensors are ultrasonic, microwave and tomographic sensors. The ultrasonic sensing device releases ultrasonic waves that functions to measure the reflection in any moving object. The microwave sensor sends pulses of microwaves. The tomographic detects disturbances in the radio waves. The fourth kind of sensor happens to belong to the passive kind. This is the infrared or pir detector. Since this detects body heat, it is used to monitor changes in temperature.
Your choice of sensor or detector from these four can be dependent upon your preference. You have to determine which one will work best for the property to be safeguarded, whether it is a residential house or a commercial establishment.
