Motor Vehicle Accidents Due To Teenage Drivers Resulting In Major Injuries And Deaths

Statistically, young drivers are at higher risk of having an accident. Just a cursory review of very recent accounts of motor vehicle accidents shows that some of them involved teen drivers. Many of these incidents involve pedestrian victims. Below we summarize recent reports of 3 such incidents. One case involves considerable injuries. The other three involve a fatality.

In this publication a motor vehicle accident was described in which the driver was a 16 year old who has a junior license which permitted the teenager to drive up to 9:00 in the evening. The incident, however, occurred on a weekday at a time later than 9:00 p.m. The reason why is unclear but somehow the driver lost control of the car. As a result the car hit another vehicle and then struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian died from the injuries sustained in the accident. The pedestrian victim was waiting at a bust stop when the accident happened. The victim was a 65 year old man. The driver survived the accident with only minor injuries. He was, however, arrested and charged with speeding, manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.

This accident involved an 18 year-old driver who was driving while intoxicated. The motor vehicle accident took place prior to dawn on a Sunday. Most drunk driving accidents occur on weekend nights. As outlined by the report the victim in this situation was struck while crossing a road. The victim was a forty four year old male. The force caused the pedestrian to suffer serious head injuries. Following the accident the driver was arrested and was charged with driving under the influence and with driving while intoxicated.

According to this report the driver was an 18 year old male. The accident happened in the morning hours on a Sunday. The accident occurred in a residential area. The accident happened when the teenaged driver lost control of his car. The car spun violently and then flipped over, struck the victim and struck a large tree in front of the house. The victim had just gotten out of his car to pick up a pamphlet from the front yard on a home which had a For Sale sign when he was hit by an out of control car. The victim died as a result of his injuries. He was 67 years old.

In this report the account was of a 19 year old driver. The young woman was driving in a residential region. The driver struck a woman who was in front of her home working in a flower bed. The car hit her with such force that she was hurled nearly 150 feet into a truck parked in her driveway. The teenaged driver fled the scene of the accident. The driver was arrested in the area around 30 minutes later as she was allegedly going back to the scene to take responsibility for the accident.

On a personal level it is sad to have to read about these accidents. These types of accidents are true tragedies. Victims who survive the accident are often left with injuries that result in permanent disabilities. In situations involving a fatality the family of the victim suffers the loss of a loved one. Even the life of the teen driver is forever changed.
