Motorcycle Accessories – Why They're Necessary

When motorbikes were first introduced, they came with minimum accessories like side

bags or grip covers but today motorbike accessories have become the need of the hour. With the increase in vehicles all around motorcycle riders need all kinds of protection, natural and unnatural. One of the most important motorcycle accessories for the rider's protection is the helmet. These helmets come in various sizes, shapes and colors and a motorcycle rider may choose one that is the most comfortable to him. Most of these helmets are manufactured as per specifications set by the transport authority of the country and uses materials that can withstand a crash and does not break.

Next in the series of motorcycle accessories are the crash damage protectors. These do not come as original equipment fitted on a motorbike by the manufacturing company but are an important motorcycle accessory in a bike. They are the frame sliders, fairing protectors or crash bobbins and are mostly found in street motorcycles. They are made from high grade plastics, nylon or sometimes aluminum and their basic purpose is to protect the engine and other internal components in the event of a crash.

Another popular motorcycle accessory that used to come as original equipment fitting for certain people on demand was the sidecar. Though now this accessory is not fitted by the companies, it is still popular amongst a certain category of people. After installing this accessory, a motorbike becomes a three wheel vehicle and thereafter three people can enjoy a bike ride.

Panniers or Saddlebags, sometimes they come as original fitting by the company but are generally available in the motorcycle accessory market. These panniers or saddlebags are available either in hard or soft material. Hard panniers are generally made in injection molded plastic such as ABS while the soft panniers come in the form of textile or leather bags and may come with or without locking facility.

These panniers are mostly detachable and while hard panniers come in suitcase like shape with side mounting and top mounting, both of these can be fitted with equal ease. The top mounting panniers are more suitable for people that carry load while side mounted panniers are suitable for light weight items. The soft panniers mostly come with zips and are fitted with the yoke around the pillion rider. These soft panniers though are detachable, are not as convenient as hard panniers because they are unsuitable to carry load and they cannot be locked like the hard ones.

One of the most fashionable and useful motorcycle accessories is the fairings and windscreens. Though fairings do come as original fitting in certain motorcycles, these are mostly available in the motorbike accessory market. These fairings and windscreens come in almost the same color as the motorbike and are made from high quality acrylic plastic. The main purpose of fairing and windscreen is to protect the driver from wind on the face and improve the aero dynamism of the bike.
