With technology increasingly playing crucial roles, owner of a movie theatre today often tries to offer the best image quality and seating comfort inside the auditorium with air conditioning. 3D and IMAX are some of the latest technological advancements seen in this business. The 3D makes the audience watch the film in three dimensions. The audiences are given special Polaroid glasses which enable them to see images popping out of the screen. The number of 3D screens has increased to more than 15,000 worldwide. The IMAX uses the film with ten times more than the frame size to produce a high quality image which is far superior in quality compared to a normal screen.

Designs vary in cinemas. Some rooms are rectangular, while others can be a bit round. Earlier trend was that the theater was very big, so can fit more and more spectators, but this was later found to be relatively expensive for the owners of these theaters. Therefore, the current trend in the theater with a smaller capacity does not cause any damage.

Now is the time of multiplexes where there are several movie screens instead of just one. This enables the owner to run different shows and gives more choice to the customers as to which movie they want to see. With more than one movie being played at the same time, the owners are booking high profits. To top it all, even megaplexes are coming up with over twenty screens.

At times during the FIFA World Cup, many theaters for live coverage of games were chosen to experience the live action. Similarly, during opera performances, or other relevant events a movie theatre is preferred but this does not happen on frequent basis.

The pricing of the movie theatres also vary. With the tickets in multiplexes costing more, single screen theatre prices are cheap. The prices of tickets vary upon different aspects in a theater like ambience, air conditioning, availability of food and drinks inside, proper management by the staff, comfortable seats, wider screens, good picture and sound quality.
