Movies To Avoid Watching With Your Ultra Conservative Grandparents

Everyone can relate to the awkward moment when someone walks in on you watching a movie during the only intimate scene in the entire movie

. Now imagine trying to sit through an incredibly raunchy or liberal movie with your grandparents who still think Ronald Regan is the president of the United States. Yeah, not fun. So here is a list of movies not to watch with Gramma and Grandpa.

Any Movie Directed by, Produced by, and Starring Sasha Baron Cohen

When Borat was getting hyped up to be one of the funniest movies of the year, few people realized how graphic, crass, and far SBC was not only willing to go, but how much he loved doing it. Borat and Bruno do serve a slight purpose as satirical pieces, but they are covered up by the almost impressive amounts of nudity and low brow jokes. My father accidentally took myself, my then ten year old sister, and cousins to the Borat movie in theaters let us just say that it did not go over too well.

Any Harold and Kumar Movie

These films are made almost exclusively for those who like to partake in a certain green herb a little too often. The jokes boil down to profanity, drugs, and outrageous circumstances that were certainly written by people who used the aforementioned green herb as their main source of creativity. Large phallic objects grace the screen, often in three dimensions, often and for no other reason to try and evoke a laugh or to shock the audience.

American Pie Movies

The, now classic, scene of the pent up teenager using his an apple pie to relieve his angst helped has become timeless. However, these comedies (much like the ones mentioned above) are geared towards the twenty something crowd. The jokes are predictably focused around the one thing all young males are obsessed with, but the content is pretty harmless sans some nudity. However, I certainly would not watch these movies outside of my guy friends.

Michael Moore Documentaries

While they are incredibly convincing and bring to light some important issues, Michael Moores documentaries are equally biased towards the left side of the political spectrum as well. Even if all of the messages in his films are true, it is a hard pill to swallow for any right winged individual and watching something so aligned with one side of the political spectrum is just asking to cause problems and heated debates within a family.

The Tree of Life

Nominated for multiple awards, this film is a work of art almost before it is a movie. The breathtaking cinematography leaves nothing to be desired, but people used to traditional plot lines and story techniques will be completely lost while watching The Tree of Life. I feel like having a degree in film studies should be a requirement for watching this film, for the sole reason that most of it will go over your head if you are unprepared.
