Moving home can be one of the most stressful things you will ever do

Several important decisions need to be made, there are many things to do, it's a lot of hard work and then there's the costs involved. As always, organisation and planning is essential. The following check-list, suggestions and reminders may be of assistance:

If you are renting, make sure you give adequate notice to the landlord in accordance with your lease terms. If you are looking to simultaneously settle the sale of one property and the purchase of the next, make sure you have engaged a conveyancer to take the appropriate steps, to make it all happen.

Work out what items you will be taking with you and what will need to be done to the remaining items you do not want, it may be a good time for a spring clean, so arrange a small mini skip in advance if you need to dispose of large items, or check with your local council, sometimes they offer a hard rubbish collection or pick up service. You may at this time also consider selling items you no longer want. eBay or your local newspaper can be of a big help when you are looking to sell household items, some local papers from time to time offer free listings for small items (make the most of it), not only will it help put a bit of extra money in your pocket, you will not have to pay for removalist time to relocate the item. In relation to the largest items you need to work out how best to get them to their new home. Think about whether you really want to be moving large items yourself, sometimes this job if best left for the professionals who will have the appropriate tools to do the job easily with a lower risk of damage to your items. you may want to consider what moving insurance cover options are available. Do you homework when selecting a removalist, get quotes and ask questions.

If you are packing up your home yourself there are a few things to consider: Pack one room at a time; Label each Box with a description of it's contents and destination (eg kitchen, bathroom, lounge). Be as specific as you can, it will make the unpacking that much easier; Select the right carton for the right job, make sure you usesmaller boxes for heavieritems such as books etc; Pack heavier items towards the bottom of the box and lighter items on top,use towels and linenin the top of the box to protect the contents; don't overfill cartons.

If you have Pets at home you may want to consider having them pat-sat for the move day, as they should be kept away from the moving process, for their own safety.
