Moving Tips Everyone Should Know

Remember The Post Office

Don't put off going to the post office to put in your change of address forms to the last minute. The more time you can give the post office to prepare, the less likely it is that you will lose mail in the moving process. Make sure and let all of your contacts know your new address as soon as possible so you don't have to rely on the forwarding service for long.

Move During The Week

Unless it's necessary because of timing issues or because of your job, it's usually a good idea to try to get on the road during the work week. All of the banks and stores will be open and you'll be less likely to face the hassle of needing a service while unable to procure it because it happens to be Saturday or Sunday.

Start Packing Early

Packing up an entire house can be a major chore, even if it is a small house or an apartment. By starting early and doing just a little bit each day, you can take the bite out of this major hassle. If you have a family, have a set amount of time each night when everyone gets together and does a little bit of packing. Make sure you label each box carefully so you don't have to play a guessing game when you arrive at your destination.

Board Pets

If you're moving from place to place within the same city or to a new location not far away, it can be a big help to have your pets out of the way. Most dogs will be highly excitable by all of the changes and this can turn them quickly into an annoyance. See if friends or family can take the pets for the day. If not, it might be worth it to put them into a kennel until you get settled in to your new home.
