Multi Video Game Packaging Like Makes Waves
I was unfortunate in the sense that I was a late bloomer when it came to the Half-Life franchise
. I never played the first game, but when a friend of mine lent me his copy of the Orange Box from Valve, he told me to play Half-Life 2 and I would be up to speed. I feel like an idiot for missing out on Half-Life 2 the first time around, because it is one of the very best games I have ever played in my life. But Half-Life 2 is not all that the Orange Box has to offer both newcomers and long time fans. Buying games packaged together is a great way to get a lot of fun at a better price.
The Orange Box comes with five, yes five, games, all of which are great and entertaining. The first, and most prominent, game in the package is Half-Life 2. It is one of the best video games of all time and does not really need an introduction. This game is just as addicting as many gamers will remember. In the five years after its initial release in 2004, the game has aged well, a feat very few games can achieve.
The game also comes with two expansions, Half-Life 2 Episode 1, and Half-Life 2 Episode 2, which further the story of the game. The game play transfers very well from the PC version of the game over to the console version, which is definitely a plus given that most of the time when something like that is attempted it falls flat on its face. The graphics haven't been re-rendered, which does not really surprise me as that would be a whole lot of work for a simple repackaging of the game. Although that would have been cool.
There is then the multiplayer game Team Fortress. It is the standard run around and blow up your enemies fare fans are used to from such games. The unexpected gem of the Orange Box is, oddly enough, a puzzle game called Portal. Portal is a game where you utilize the portal gun to get from point A to point B in creative ways. The portal gun is a favorite from the series, so the idea of basing an entire game around it is pretty awesome, especially since the weapon leaves open so many gameplay possibilities beyond just creatively dismembering alien scum. I heavily recommend the Orange Box to both long time Half-Life fans and newcomers alike. Hopefully there will more video games sets that will be offered in this way.
