Music Artist Promotion - That Will Make You Famous
There is one side of music artist promotion that has been coming up more and more recently so I want to discuss it in this article
. What Im talking about is the concept of local music promotion.
The question usually goes something like this.
First I want to thank you for all the music promotion content....
I have a lot of fans all over the world but when I try and play a show in my home town the crowd numbers stink. The promoters dont want me back!
It there a way to build up my fans in my home town, or even a town a few miles away that I'm going to play a tour date in?
So lets try and answer this question and look at your options.
First I think that you should only play live when you have a lot of fans asking for a gig.
There is no point otherwise, and its just an ego boost. (Until nobody turns up ;-)
Dont moan about the fact that your fans are spread all over the world because this is a great thing. A few years ago I would still be at my day job because there was not enough fans in this town to pay my bills.
Now I can find those little pockets of fans all over the world that pay my rent each and every month. Which Im very grateful for.
Who cares if you cant play live shows in your home town?
Most gigs turn out to be a hassle anyway, so just set up a studio at home and do your gigs over Ustream.
If you must build a local fan base non organically try:
Facebook Ads - let you display ads to people in any town.
Google Ads - Even more crazy targeting for people in any place you like.
If you know that you have a tour date in six months, you could start showing ads and getting people to buy tickets.
But for me you should always keep your fan building natural.
It goes like this...
Make the best music you can and do a little bit of promotion.
If it really is good the Internet will do the rest of the promotion for you.
