Music Marketing Plan: I'm Giving You My Entire Plan...free!
If you're looking for a simple yet effective music marketing plan then you've come to the right place
. The way I like to think about my music marketing is in two steps...
First is getting the music out there to the online stores and retail stops...
... and second is letting fans know it's there and giving them a good reason to buy it.
(That reason should usually be that you have targeted your market really well and they love what you do.)
Here are some simple steps to getting your music marketing plan rocking and bringing in the sales.
The Nine Golden Rules Revealed
1. Three months: When you write your plan you should be three months away from the release. This will give you time to get into music magazines and arrange radio interviews.
2. Sit down and write the first draft of your plan, including a time line.
3. Outcomes and goals: This is where you clearly state what you want to achieve from the release. I like to aim high because this raises my standards for he whole process.
4. Your market and images: This is where you focus on a tight section of the market and will keep you on track in all your marketing efforts.
5. CD design: Include details on CD duplication and who is going to design your stuff.
6. PR: Make a massive lists of all the magazine, radio stations and websites that you would like to be featured on. Then cut down the list to only the most relevant and get the contact details.
7. Distributions: Include details of your digital music distortion company and who you will be working with to get he music in the shops.
8. Live dates: Still a great way to get the word out and the easiest strategy is to get a booking agent to book the live dates for you.
9. Advertising: If you have the budget you might consider a few magazine ads, but for me you get a much better response with google and facebook ads. Remember that you always want to be building your mailing list.
The final step...
Now that you have a great overview you want to create a timeline with deadlines and milestones that you need to stick to.
Don't be afraid to delay your release if you think that you're going to get a really juicy review in a few weeks. But at some point you must stop waiting and press GO!
Remember that you will only get good distribution if the retails stores are hearing a buzz about your music.
