Hookah is considered to be a method of having a slow and relaxed experience of smoking. This includes preparation, lighting and smoking methods that make it more relaxed and comfortable to use. There may be some techniques that one may use to improve the hookah smoking experience. One is by adding ice to the water which gives you a cooler more of chilled smoke from the hose. Different flavored tobaccos or shisha may also be added to add more aroma and flavor as you smoke in through the hose of the hookah. Some shishas come in different blends of flavors for that added spice and taste.

However, there are specifically required needed to make sure that you will have a good hookah smoking experience. Always use the proper charcoal for smoking. These are specifically made for hookah smoking only; these are charcoals that are not briquettes. Also put a small amount of shisha or hookah tobacco in the bowl, do not go above the rim. If the smoke or flavor is not enough, it might be because you charcoals are not yet hot. You may also have to change charcoals for each and every smoking session.

Hookah smoking has been part of a tradition or a social activity, it is but right to follow etiquettes when using hookah. First and foremost, do not light cigarettes with the charcoal that heats up the hookah tobacco. Also do not blow into someone else's face. Do not share plastic mouthpiece. And lastly, do not smoke cigar or tobacco when a hookah session is in place. If a person is finished with smoking, the hose should be set directly on the table. This signifies that the person is already done.

Whether you are smoking hookah or cigar, there are rules and etiquettes that must be followed. These are to have a good smoking experience and not to be rude to others. Hookah is said to be a social method of smoking, so it is just right to act properly in front of many other people.
