I was the perfect definition of a workaholic, my daily routine comprised of me waking up at 8am and reaching by office by 9.30am sharp
. The watchman in my office could set his watch by me, as there wasnt a day when I was even the slightest bit late. My whole day comprised of me sitting in my cubicle and staring at excel sheets and various balance sheets on the flat screen of my computer. I loved my job, I just needed a break from the monotonous routine of waking up going to the office and coming back home after. So when my boss told me I needed a vacation to get my mind of work for a few days, I jumped at the opportunity. I got sanctioned 10 days leave from work and I was going to make the most of everyday I had.
Instead of going to the standard hill stations like Shimla and Ooty I decided to go to a small hill station called Masi which was situated in the Ranikhet District in Uttarakhand. I set off at 8am and was away on the NH-24, I got out of Delhi in no time and skipped the awful city traffic. The drive to Moradabad was lovely; I reached there by 11am and found a decent looking restaurant where I feasted on some parathas and lassi. After my breakfast I was about to take the Moradabad-Kashipur highway but the manager of the restaurant told me to avoid that route, as an accident had caused a huge traffic jam on that particular route, which would take hours to clear. So I took an alternative route provided to me by the manager.
Although this route was completely free of traffic the state of the roads were pathetic. The roads were extremely narrow and bumpy and I had a few close calls while trying to navigate on the narrow road with cars coming from the opposite side of the road. A few hours later I finally reached Dhangari, the weather had cooled down as I was at the foothills of the Himalayas. I finally reached Masi at 6pm and the view was mind blowing. I made it in time to see the sunset and that moment when I saw the sun set, took away all the fatigue that hours of driving had caused.
I was so glad to have made this trip in my car and after the horrible roads I drove though I honestly considered my sx4 to be the best diesel car in India. All I could think about now were the next ten days I had to just sit back and relax.
