The mascot and logo of any sporting event holds lot of importance

. And the official mascot for the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 is Shera, an anthropomorphised tiger, truly representing a modern Indian, also symbolizing the nations ancient heritage and a fierce competitor but with honesty and integrity. It is Idiom Design and Consulting that designed the mascot.

The Queen's Baton Relay witnessed the start when the baton left Buckingham Palace on 29 October 2009. The baton, containing Queen Elizabeth II's message to the athletes, arrived on the 25th June 2010 in India through the Wagah Border crossing from Pakistan; it will reach the 2010 Games opening ceremony on 3 October 2010. The other 70 nations of the Commonwealth are covered during the tour and the baton will move throughout India, reaching millions of people to cheer for the CWG 2010.

There is good news for tourists as well as athletes arriving to the capital city from other parts of the world. According to the Commonwealth Games news, the Delhi government has implemented a program to teach English to waiters, porters, cab drivers, security staff, and other service staff for easy interaction with tourists and catering to their needs with warm hospitality. The Commonwealth Games news also confirms the training of over 2,000 drivers on the English language. This program meant for the CWG 2010 aimed to teach 1,000 people English per month.

The competition venues of the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 include new and existing stadiums in Delhi. With the opening and closing ceremonies including athletics, lawn bowls, weightlifting to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, other events will take place in the following:

Rugby sevens: Delhi University sports complex

Hockey: Dhyan Chand National Stadium

Archery, cycling, gymnastics, wrestling: Indira Gandhi Arena

Badminton, Squash: Siri Fort Sports Complex

Netball: Thyagaraj Stadium

Shooting: Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range

Aquatics: SPM Swimming Pool Complex

Boxing: Talkatora Stadium

Table tennis: Yamuna Sports Complex

Tennis: RK Khanna Tennis Complex.
