Narcissistic Personality Disorder as a rule known as NPD is a classification of personality disorder in which the individual presents an endless deficiency for admiration, is very sensitive to the criticism of others and has of empathy for others around him or her. Persons having this condition are commonly over confident and arrogant and they usually consider themselves to be superior beings in comparison to folks around them. Persons suffering from this disorder are intensely preoccupied with issues like personal power, control and capability. This illness is also nearly linked to self centeredness, where the person shows complete negligence to people around them and they view the entire world in terms of the self. A narcissistic personality isn't able to put himself in another's shoes and evaluate a situation.

Regardless of the progress in science, the causes of this illness are however not very clear. Many heath care professionals think that narcissism is a fruit of the extremes in childhood. A child that has been neglected by his or her parents or a child who suffered abuse or trauma may end up becoming a narcissist; a child who had been pampered more than deserved could also suffer from this illness as they age.

Any person, to be diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder must have five or more signs of a total of 10 symptoms. Those contain haughty habits, deficit of understanding, enviousness, sense of self importance, want for excessive admiration, refusing to admit errors or flaws and interpersonal exploitativeness.
