The AWS released a press article back in 1996 declaring the reason that April was National Welding Month was because, welding is the secret ingredient that keeps todays world together. With Americas growing demand for manufactured products, the demand for skilled welders is constantly growing. It is estimated that there will be a need for over 200,000 professional welders by the end of the decade. So here are 3 ways that you can get involved:
1.Figure out where you want to be in 10 years
Welding can take you just about anywhere you want to go. Whether you want to be in sales, engineering, a technician, or many other careers; welding can get you there. Want to travel the world? Learn to weld. There are welding jobs all over the globe that desperately need to welders and according to the Department of Labor Employment Statistics; you can earn in excess of $125,000 per year. Handsome salary and a great future, what else is required? A good planing and right course can take you right there.
2.Enroll in a class at your high school or local college
Learn the skill for the first time or brush up by enrolling in a class at your high school or at your local community college. If the foundation is strong than the coming future is even brighter. Learn the basics of welding at high school itself so that later in life, you can just concentrate on mastering some advanced skills.
