Natural Ways Of Getting Rid Of Insects
If you look closely, you will find that within your home there are a number of natural
household items and preventative measures that can easily rid your home of insects, or stop them from coming in the first place.
To begin, one of the most effective ways to control bugs is to prevent them before they even appear. You can do this by simply keeping everything clean and free of garbage, debris and food particles. You should also ensure that cracks are sealed. French windows are great, but bugs can easily get through them, screens on your windows and doors can easily fix this issue.
You should also keep all food and beverages covered. If these things are left open, the scent can easily attract ants and other bugs. It is best to store leftover foods in the fridge instead of open areas and always keep foods tightly sealed. Overripe foods should not be placed on kitchen counters; the scents can attract ants, flies, bees and other type of insects. Remember if these fruits are no longer edible you can simply use them to make fruit juice. You can also use them as fertilizers in your garden or send them to a compost bank.
When cleaning your counters, use citrus scented products such as lemon and orange. Bugs generally hate these strong odors and will stay away. You can also soak cotton balls in citrus oils and place them in different locations around the house, window sills, doorways, cupboards and other places where bugs are usually present. You can also sprinkle pepper or garlic powder in different corners of the house, bugs usually avoid these items.
Make sure you do not have stagnant water anywhere around the house. This can cause mosquito breeding which can lead to malaria. Other insect also thrive is damp areas, so leaky pipes, drains, faucets and hoses should be checked for leakage. Garbage cans should be properly sealed at all times. They can emit odor that attracts flies and other insects. Keep hedges and trees in the yard trimmed at all times. If plants grow too close to the home it provides a way for the insects to get into the house as they may climb on leaves and limbs.
All in all, keeping a clean home is essential to keeping insects from ever coming, and then using citrus scented cleaning products, keeping food and beverages covered, and taking other necessary precautions can help you ensure, without the use of pesticides or other harmful products, that your home will remain pest free for years to come!
