Navigating Costa Rica With A Gps

Navigating Costa Rica with a GPS
You have looked at the maps and seen that Costa Rica is a little country without a huge net of roads, so it should be easy to find the way around, right? Wrong! even with its limited size and infrastructure, Costa Ricas roads are notoriously tricky for travelers and more than one veteran driver has found themselves puzzled at how to get from A to B without going via C, T, X and Z!
One of the major troubles in Costa Rican directions is that there are no street names or numbers. Well, San Jose has a marvelously clear grid classification; with Calles (streets) running North/South and Avenidas (avenues) East/West. This would be the perfect navigating toolif anyone used the street numbers! Try asking for a place in San Jose by giving the calle/avenida numbers and nine times out of ten, your Tico guide will ask you what it is close to! Thats right; addresses are given with references to well-known landmarks and compass points which is a piece of cake, if you know the location of said landmark and which direction youre facing! The extra joy to mastering this system of finding your way is that some recognized landmarks no longer exist!
Oh and remember that a block is described as 100 meters, whether it is 500 or 50! So be ready to look for an inn, bank or mall in the nations capital with directions such as 50 meters north and 300 meters south from where the big tree used to locate in San Pedro. Or ask for a GPS system when you make your car rental in Costa Rica save yourself a lot of time, anxiety and misunderstanding!
A Car Rental Costa Rica will provide you one with your car for an extra of 10 dollars.
