Neighbors Can Improve Your Home Security System
A great part of any home security system is neighbors
. In these turbulent times when crime and burglary are on the rise, we all need to look out for each other. You should get to know the neighbors on both sides of your home and those that live directly across the street from you. Invite these neighbors into your house regularly and establish good relationships. With everyone looking out for everyone, you all greatly reduce the chances of intruders striking.
A good home security is a must have in todays world, but these systems can only do so much. There are some things that neighbors can do that a home alarm could never do. For instance, home alarm systems are only activated when they are triggered. But they have no sense of intuition. They dont think. If burglars are routinely checking up on your house, planning out the best way to enter, your home alarm knows nothing of this suspicious activity. It cant take preventative measures. But reliable neighbors can.
Your neighbors can be on the lookout for suspicious behavior and they can let you know about, or better yet, they can report this behavior to the police. This kind of protection is particularly valuable when you and your family go away on vacation. There is nothing worse than coming home after a nice long vacation only find that your home has been violated. These intrusions leave only bitter memories and questions about how safe your family really is. With a good group of neighbors watching over your house, however, you greatly reduce the chances of some unfortunate event taking place.
Not only will neighbors watch over you house when you are away and alert the police if there is trouble, but they can also help you prevent trouble from happening in the first place. Burglars are always on the lookout for houses that have many newspapers scattered all over the front lawn. These papers are something burglars love to see because they make it obvious that there is no one in the house. Likewise, if your mail begins to overflow from your mailbox, burglars can tell that you have not been home for many days. But if you have neighbors that you trust, however, you can ask them to pick up your newspapers and your mail. In this way, there is no obvious way for burglars to know if you are away. Furthermore, if you really have a good relationship with your neighbors, you can exchange keys. In this way, you can have your neighbors enter your house every day in order to turn on lights, open and close the curtains, and water your plants.
If you are very serious about protecting your family and the families of your neighbors, you may consider forming a neighborhood watch.
When it comes to the safety of your family and home, dont rely on technology to do everything for you. Get close to your neighbors, help to keep them safe, and ask them to do the same for you. There is strength in numbers.
