Netbook vs Laptop? What's Best For Me?
Lately, netbook vs
Lately, netbook vs. laptop comparisons became quite controversial, due to the fact that more and more people think that netbooks became almost like laptops. A general definition of minilaptops is that netbooks are smaller laptops. Even so, you will find a couple of differences when comparing netbooks and laptops.
For example, mini laptops were designed for simple tasks, such as text writing or emailing, whereas regular laptops can be used for normal tasks, like desktops are. You can play the latest FIFA game on a laptop, but not on netbook. Why is that? First, because netbook's processor is slower and second, because it lacks the optical drive so you cannot insert the CD to copy the game.
But that is not the only difference between laptop and netbook. If you saw a netbook by now, you must have notices its size: it's smaller. They rarely have a screen bigger than 10, and regarding the storage capacity, some of them feature Solid State Drives (SSD) , and not the regular HDD that you get with laptops, which makes the netbook's battery life longer and allows a faster data access.
When it comes to media applications, the "netbook versus laptop" fight is clearly won by the laptop. And there no wonder why: the netbook in incapable of multitasking, it lacks optical drives and does not allow you to edit videos or photos.
Let's just see a practical example: Asus EEE PC 1015 PED vs. Toshiba Satellite L505. Both of these computers do pretty much the same things, just that Toshiba Satellite has a 15.6 inch screen, while EEE's screen size is only 10.1 inch, not to mention that is at least 2 pounds lighter compared to the laptop. The Asus netbook has a battery that can last for up to 13 hours, which is far more than Toshiba's performance. Of course, the laptop does have a CD/ DVD unit, but this issue can be easily solved by buying an external optical unit.
If the price is am important aspect, I should tell you that the laptop is $539.99, whereas the netbook's price is $383, quite a big difference if you ask me.
So, which one is better? Even if notebook vs laptop comparisons tend to become extremely "fashionable" my guess is that there is no definite answer. Each of us has different needs and expectations from a PC, so the first thing you should do is to make a list with what you need from a computer before buying one.
