New Dating Trend

The usual dating trends implemented by single guys and single girls to meet singles have existed for quite some time

. Such trends can take the form of online dating via online dating websites, mobile phone dating via smart phone apps and functions and the conventional offline dating via finding someone interesting through common interests and common friends. In this light, various research studies have been made about these aforementioned trends. Due to the multitude of research studies, interpretations of findings have seemingly become repetitive, thus making the market for this research over-saturated.

To prevent the occurrence of this so-called over-saturation, proprietors of dating research have come to another innovation that might give another meaning to the world of dating. Martha McClintock, the founder of the Institute for Mind and Biology at the University of Chicago, and her colleagues have devised another way for single guys and single girls to meet each other "" introducing, Pheromone Dating.

Pheromone Dating is based on the idea that pheromone, a hormone secreted by humans, facilitates attraction. Conception of the attractiveness of a certain pheromone varies by human to human so interpretation of it is highly subjective. What an individual considers attractive may not be so attractive to another individual. It can be considered synonymous to a single guy"s conception on a single girl"s physical looks in a way that perception of this is also varied.

Judith Pray was one of those who decided to put pheromone dating to the test. She invited 40 friends to a party in New York and set the plan into action. The idea of "pheromone dating" or "pheromone parties" revolves around the concept of basically sniffing used clothes of various individuals. Whenever a single guy or a single girl decides that the smelled cloth was actually pleasant, a picture of the individual together with the T-shirt is flashed, and the owner of the T-shirt can decide whether he or she actually wants to go and meet the person who found his pheromones pleasant to smell. The end result for the event was that only few people decided to come and meet their pheromone admirer since they felt shy knowing that someone smelled one of their used clothes.

In a study done by McClintock and her colleagues, participants were asked to smell inside a covered box without being given information that these boxes contained work T-shirts. The reason for this is that participants would not subject themselves so willingly if they discovered that they were supposed to smell a used garment by a stranger.

The finding was that people had a preference over odors of people who had different genetic make-ups from their own. An interpretation of this is that people may be produced to think in this way ever since their conception "" they might be attracted to people with the same interests as them, however, they are still attracted to their opposite halves.

A lesson that individuals can gather from this new dating trend is that whatever the innovation may be, the findings may still be the same. Pheromone dating is a new dating trend, indeed. However, it only validates the theory that opposites attract in dating "" and this is a reminder that single guys and single girls should remember.
